Geraldine 'Gerrie' Lou Scully, 81, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away on July 16, 2017 at the Suncoast Woodside Hospice Care Center in Pinnellas Park, FL. She had been residing at The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay since December 2015. Prior to this Gerrie had lived in Gainesville, FL 38 years.
Gerrie was born in Murphrysboro, IL to John Theodore Taylor and Geraldine Lenore Higgins on June 14, 1936. She went to high school at Routt Catholic High School in Jacksonville, IL. After high school she studied for a year at Marquette University and then graduated from Saint Joseph's School of Nursing in Alton, IL. Gerrie later earned her Bachelor's degree from The School of Nursing at The University of San Francisco in 1975 and her Master's degree from The School of Nursing at The University of California, San Francisco, CA. in 1977.
Gerrie began her professional career working as an RN at various hospitals in California. In 1977, she accepted a position as a professor in the College of Nursing at The University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. After her tenure there, she began teaching at Santa Fe in the College of Nursing in 1995, where she remained until she retired in 2002.
Gerrie was inducted into The Nursing Honor Society in 1991 and was a member of Sigma Theta Tau National Society, North Central Florida Advanced Practice Nurses Association, and The PKD Foundation, where she was the former chapter coordinator and founder of the Gainesville chapter.
Gerrie enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, painting, going to the beach, Gator sporting events, and watching the sunsets from her home on Boca Ciega Bay.
Gerrie leaves behind two daughters, Therese (Michael) LeGrow, and Suzanne (Daniel) Hackman; sister, Nell Ann Wooldridge; nieces, Deb Connor and Dyann Stone; nephews, Michael Stone and Tedd Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Theodore Taylor and Geraldine Lenore Higgins; and her brother, Theodore Higgins Taylor.
Gerrie requested cremation and her ashes will be spread by the family at a later date. A celebration of her life will be hosted by her daughters on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 5pm at the CYM Coffee Shop in Gainesville, FL.
