Robert Adam Young was born to Rachel Ethel Lindgren Young and George Campbell Young on January 17th, 1923 in Sydney, Australia. Robert passed away March 11th, 2018, at the age of 95, at Menorah Manor nursing home in St. Petersburg, Florida following an acute illness. He was predeceased by his first wife, Alice Murray Young; and his two brothers and sister.
He lived a colorful and adventurous life. He was raised in Sydney, Australia, where he was both a lifeguard and an avid surfer (despite the Great Whites!). Serving in WWII, he was part of the Australian Armed Forces in the Pacific. He immigrated to the U.S. following the war, where he met, and married Alice Frances Murray, with whom he had two children.
Following Alice’s untimely death, he met and remarried Mary Ann Cunningham, with whom he had a third child. They lived in Westchester County, NY and more recently, St. Petersburg, FL, where he resided until his death.
Robert had an affinity for jazz music, beautiful women, good scotch, delicious food, sunbathing, long walks on the beach, comedy, literature, history, geneology, soccer, (MUFC), the New York Jets, Duke University basketball, the New York Yankees, and so much more. He had a contagious laugh and those that knew him in life knew that he was a force to be reckoned with. He touched many lives in so many beautiful ways, and was loved by everyone that knew him. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife: Mary Ann Young, three children: Tracey E. Young, Robert W. Young, and Victoria A. Young, 2 sons-in law: Dennis Kaylor and Derek Palmisano, and his three grandchildren: Hillary C. Kaylor, Zachary A. Kaylor-Young and Sydney R. Blanchard, as well as many, many beloved extended family members and dear friends.
He will be forever missed.
A private cremation has been planned.
David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Central Avenue Chapel in St. Petersburg is serving the family.
