Sarah Berkowitz 98 of Clearwater passed away peacefully on June 5, 2017.

Beloved wife of Barnett (Barney) Berkowitz (deceased).  Devoted mother of Lorraine Neal of Clearwater, Fl, Marion and John Callahan of Largo, FL and Jay and Tracey Berkowitz of Ocean, NJ.  Loving Grandmother of Zoe Francois, Gavin and Megan Berkowitz and beloved Great Grandmother of Henri and Charlie Francois.  Predeceased by brothers Sol Weinstein and Henry and Arthur Winston.  Beloved sister of David Weinstein and his wife Marilyn.

Born December 1918 in New York City, Sarah lived in the Brooklyn Hebrew Orphan Asylum from 1928 to 1934 where she was captain of the high school basketball team and played leading roles singing and dancing in musical productions such as the Mikado and Pirates of Penzance.

Sarah and Barney married in 1942 and had their first child in 1947 after Barney's return from active duty in WWII.  They subsequently moved to Waterbury, CT where Sarah was a housewife and raised their three children.  Sarah and Barney retired to Clearwater, FL where she developed interests in bridge, shuffleboard, and started her own business selling collectibles at local flea markets.

Sarah was resilient, feisty, fun and funny.  Even in her last years she was young at heart and never let her age define her. She greeted everyone with a huge smile, a warm hello and a barrage of good natured Brooklyn-style verbal jabs. Everyone who met her fell in love.

Graveside services will be 10 AM Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Chapel Hill Memorial Park, 12905 Wild Acres Rd, Largo.
