Stephen Mariniak, 65, passed away February 23, 2018.

Steve was born on July 24, 1952 in Tampa and grew up there, the fourth child of Stephen Joseph Mariniak and Wilma Lola Card Mariniak. He attended Christ The King Catholic Church and School. Steve graduated in 1970 from Plant High School in Tampa. As a teen, he greatly enjoyed the hobby of Ham Radio Operator.

Steve was fortunate to have traveled much of the world while serving six years in the Navy. Upon his honorable discharge, Steve’s dad encouraged him to enlist in the Air Force Reserves, where he served for 20 years and progressed to the rank of captain. Steve was called to active duty in 1990 and left family, job, and friends behind to serve and is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. The discipline and patriotism he learned in his military career never left him, as friends and family will attest.

Steve found great joy in meeting people and learning about their lives. He had the ability to speak with anyone at any time. Because of this genuine interest in others, he made friends easily. Steve’s caring nature led him to a career in psychiatric nursing. His work ethic and his natural ability to relate with others led to a successful career at Jacksonville Mental Health Center, Jacksonville, Florida.

Steve leaves behind his sons, Justin and Adam, a source of great pride and joy; he loved them very much. Steve is also survived by his sisters, Marylee, Margaret, and Rita, and their spouses; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at David C. Gross Funeral Home in St. Petersburg. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, March 2 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 821 S. Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa.
