Carl R. (Ron) Olson was born September 15, 1942 and passed away December 25 in Palm Harbor, Florida.  

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Barbara; son Anthony (Susie); daughter Natalie Godsil (Joseph); sister Patricia Big Bear; faithful dog Nick; grandchildren, Michael (Kayla), Stacy (Joe), Lydia, James, Bridget, and Timothy; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Madeline; and many nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Carl J. and Mary Olson; brother Richard Olson.

He served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas. He was employed at the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority for for 35 years until his retirement to Florida. He enjoyed restoring antique radios for many years and continued to be an avid sportsman throughout retirement. Ron was a volunteer Range Officer for the Wyoming Antelope Club, Florida Chapter, and received the Range Officer of the Year in 2014 and Volunteer of the Year Award in 2017. He was also a member of the Cowboy Quickdraw Association - known by his alias, Dough Boy - and recently earned a 3rd Place achievement in the Men’s Golden Gun competition in 2018. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post #275. He was a long time supporter of the Florida Association of State Troopers. Ron will be greatly missed, but we are eternally grateful for all the laughter and shared memories he leaves with us.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at David C. Gross Funeral Home, 830 N. Belcher Road, Clearwater. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 11 AM thru service time.

Burial will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clearwater.
