Jane PutzelOctober 23, 1925 ~ June 22, 2017 (age 91)
Jane G. Putzel, 91, of St. Pete Beach, passed away tragically on June 22, 2017.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Jane started her career in NYC as a bilingual secretary for the Cuban consulate. Jane’s avocation, however, has always been DANCE. She was a member of the Munt-Brooks modern dance company under the tutelage of Hanya Holm, a talented contemporary of Martha Graham, until she moved to Baltimore in 1952. Fate intervened and a blind date with a gent named John turned into a life together. They raised five children and she taught ballet and modern dance in the Washington, D.C. area until moving to St. Pete Beach in 1977. There, Jane took up tennis and played until last year as a member of the Rackettes at Bartlett Park and as a member of the Treasure Island Tennis and Yacht Club. She also taught dance and exercise classes at the YWCA, Sunshine Center and St. Pete Beach Recreation Center at the Don Vista until her sudden death. Jane’s mantra was “move it or lose it”!
Predeceased by her husband, John J. Putzel, she is survived by her loving family; daughters, Linda Putzel (Maggie), Lisa Schnibbe Ratner (Bob), Lois Henry (Glenn), John Putzel (Mary) and James Putzel (Dawn); 18 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was truly revered and loved by all as the community “Gran” by her own grands and others.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 am with services 11 am on Tuesday, June 27, at the David C. Gross Funeral Home, 6366 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated by The Sunshine Center, St. Petersburg or the Suntan Art Center, Inc., on St. Pete Beach.
