Mary grew up in Pittsburgh, PA prior to attending college at the University of West Georgia where she graduated with a degree in Spanish. After college, Mary became a Vista volunteer helping in poor communities in the south. It was through this volunteer work that Mary landed in Charleston, SC where she met Kipp when she purchased a bicycle from him at Bikeway Cycle Center. They were married in 1975 and welcomed their first child, Curt in 1976. Kelley was born in 1980. Mary went back to school and completed her degree in nursing in 1992. In 1992 the family moved to St. Petersburg and enjoyed living closer to family. Mary worked as a nurse for 6 years before semi-retiring. She was also actively involved over the years in women’s and children’s ministries at both Northside Baptist Church and Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. Mary was a beautiful friend, always ready to help someone in need. But her greatest joy was being a grandma. She will be greatly missed by all.
David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Central Avenue Chapel in St. Petersburg is serving the family.
